Tonight, it’s Robles vs Landeros at the Four Points

Once again, it’s showtime with Bobby D at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in San Diego. That’s Bobby DePhilippis in association with Andy Perez’ A&T Gym and Jorge Marron Productions showcasing their latest “Champions of Tomorrow” live boxing series.
Featured on the fight card are fighters from different locations in the U.S., Mexico and Caribbean. In their six round main event, they have lightweights, Emmanuel “Renegade” Robles (6-0-1, 2 KOs) from Ernie Johnson’s Old School Boxing Gym in the SDSU college area, facing Adolfo “El Terror” Landeros (22-29-2, 10 KOs) from Hidalgo, Mexico.You talk about a grizzled veteran, Landeros has fought Jhonny Gonzalez, Ronny Rios, Gary Russell Jr., JonathanOquendo, Efrain Esquivias, Jonathan Romero, Guy Robb, Alejandro Luna, Eduardo Rivera, Horacio Garcia, Michael Franco, and San Diego’s Christopher Martin. This is only the second time he’s fought at such a high weight, 136.5 lbs. Landeros should be fighting as a super bantamweight to possibly a featherweight, no more.
In Robles’ last outing he took care of the rugged Jose Mendoza late last year at the very same venue. Robles, who lives in Imperial Beach, stated 2013 will be his year to make a big splash. With the help of his promoter, Bobby D., he’s ready to step it up as far as the quality of opponents. Robles, who turned pro in 2010, has just that one blemish on his record, the draw against Adrian Vargas of San Diego’s Undisputed Gym at 16th and K Streets.
In the co-feature, they have lightweight Eduardo “Lobito” Rivera (9-0-1, 3 KOs) from Yucatan, Mexico. He will appear in a six round contest against Kevin Hoskins (6-1-0, 4 KOs) from Los Angeles. Hoskins hasn’t beaten anyone of consequence and only one person with a winning record, Juan Suazo who is currently 8-7-3.
After a draw is his pro debut, Rivera has looked impressive. He’s considered one the best prospects in their “Champions of Tomorrow” series. His nickname “Lobito” – translates to – “Little wolf.”

Once beaten flyweight Basilio “Chocolate” Nievez (15-1, 3 KOs) of Lakeside, CA by way of the Dominican Republic will be facing Juanito Rubilar (48-19-7, 23 KOs) of Manila, Philippines. Nievez has won his last seven and this will be his second appearance at the Sheraton. Rubilar hasn’t won a fight in over three years

National City’s super welterweight David Barragan (3-0-1, 2 KOs) will be making his long awaited home opener versus Jose Martell (2-5-1, 2 KOs) in a four rounder. We shouldn’t expect much from Martell, he took the fight on short notice, less than 48 hours ago and then had to starve himself to make weight. After doing so well in Orange County, Barragan is ready to impress the home folk with his powerful left hooks to the stomach.

The supporting cast features Oceanside flyweight Jonathan “Johnny Boy” Quiroz (2-1) going up against Jesus Sandoval of Riverside who will be making his pro debut. Sandoval is very quotable. He insinuated, “I’m a big puncher for my class. I’ve even KO’d guys just sparring.”
They also have James “JHollyWooooD” Taylor (2-0) of San Diego facing Victor Fonseca (2-1-1, 1 KO) of Tijuana, B. C., Mexico. This should be the most competitive bout of the evening.
The Four Points by Sheraton Hotel is located at 8110 Aero Drive, San Diego, CA. The Champions of Tomorrow event is for all ages and there’s plenty of free parking. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the fights scheduled to begin at 7:30.
