After a year and 8 month layoff, Jackie Nava is back

La Princesa Azteca is back! The former WBA Female Bantamweight and WBC Female Super Bantamweight Champion, Jacqueline Nava Mouett, a heroine of the highest magnitude in the city of Tijuana and for that matter all of Mexico, will be returning to the ring Saturday night, May 24, 2014 to face Alys Sanchez at the Municipal Auditorium in Tijuana. The 34 year-old had taken a leave of absence to have her first child, Frida Mendoza Nava.

With a record of 28-4-3, 12 KOs, Nava is best known for being the first ever Women’s  WBC Champion. Her opponent on Saturday night in this 10 rounder, is 27 year-old Alys “La China” Sanchez (12-1-1, 4 KOs) of Venezuela. The ladies will be fighting for the Interim WBA Female Super Bantamweight Title. By fight time, Nava will have been away from the competition for a full year and eight months.

In Nava’s last bout, on August 18, 2012, she beat Lisa Brown in her third defense of the WBA Female Super Bantamweight Title. In Sanchez’s last bout, she lost a narrow, split decision to 26 year-old Costa Rican Carolina Arias (9-0, 4 KOs) at the Sports City Gym, Hatillo, San Jose, Costa Rico.

 

Nava’s boxing exploits

April 2004, Nava won the Mexican National Super Bantamweight Championship by knocking out Ofelia Dominguez.

 

On Feb. 28, 2005, Nava won her first world title, the WBA Female Bantamweight Championship by beating Martha Leticia Arevalo by TKO in the 7th round.

 

On May 5, 2005, Nava became the first ever WBC Female Champion when she beat Leona Brown to win the Inaugural WBC Female Super Bantamweight Championship.

 

On September 16, 2007 she beat Donna Biggers to win the Interim WBC Female Super Bantamweight Championship.
