Roman KOs Japanese Champion to win the WBA Super Bantamweight Title

In what they’re calling the biggest fight of his career, Danny Roman (23-2-1, 9 KOs) delivered a masterful performance by knocking out the much taller WBA Super Bantamweight champ Shun Kubo (12-1, 9 KOs) in the ninth round of their scheduled 12 rounder on Sunday, September the third, to become the new WBA World Super Bantamweight Champion. Confident as ever, the 27-year-old, who lives and trains in Los Angeles, made good on his pre-fight promise to win by knockout.

“I said before the fight that I didn’t intend for this fight to go to the scorecards,” said Roman. “The plan was to knock him out and take the WBA title in a dominate fashion.”

Indeed, Roman dominated the fight from start to finish, winning every round on every scorecard with the exception of the first round on just one score card. He battered Kubo on multiple occasions, dropping him in the seventh and eighth rounds before finishing him off in the ninth.

“Words can not describe what I’m feeling right now,” said Roman after the fight. “It’s a dream come true.”

“We never had any doubt that Danny would win the WBA title,” said Alex Camponovo, matchmaker and general manager of Thompson Boxing Promotions. “He looked unbelievable against Kubo. We believe his best years are still ahead of him. That’s a scary thought for the rest of the champions in this division.”

The 12-round WBA championship fight took place at the Shimazu Arena in Kyoto, Japan. Roman, who is trained and managed by Eddie Gonzalez and exclusively promoted by Thompson Boxing Promotions will now have even bigger, more lucrative offers coming his way. In a weight class, that is packed with unbelievable talent, things get even more hectic, impactful, momentous and eventually historic from here on out.

4) Marlon Tapales (30-2-13 KOs) a 25-year-old southpaw who resides in Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte, Philippines.

5) Julio Ceja (31-2, 28 KOs) a 24-year-old, orthodox boxer, who resides in Atizapan de Zaragoza, Mexico City, Mexico.

6) Nonito Donaire (37-4, 24 KOs) who is now 34-years-old, a righty and resides in San Leandro, Calif.

7) Yukinori Oguni (19-1-1, 7 KOs) is a 29-year-old, 5’7½” righty from Tokyo, Japan

8) Jonathan Guzman (22-1, 22 KOs) is 28 years-old,

9) Josh Warrington, 5’7” tall (25-0, but only 5 KOs) from Leeds, Yorkshire, United Kingdom. His opponents have been well chosen.
