Wednesday, 5 p.m., the officials of the California Athletic Commission and the boxers scheduled to compete the following evening in the boxing show “Champions of Tomorrow” were in attendance to conduct their regular weigh-ins and the mandatory pre-fight checks of their documentation. Yours truly was on hand to take the photos as they came off the scales.

Of all the athletes in attendance, Lionel T. Davis (7-0, 6 KOs) of Hawthorne, CA, who weighs 256 pounds and stands 6’7” tall, had to be the most uncomfortable as he sat there waiting his turn with his knees abutting the seat in front of him. Imagine Wladimir Klitschko being in a similar situation.

His opponent Cornell “The Troublesome Underdog” Davis (3-13-2) was all smiles and seemed unintimidated when facing Hercules. As mentioned, Davis’s height, reach and weight advantage make him a prohibitive favorite. I guess it’s only proper to add that Cornell Davis hasn’t won a match in over  four and a half years.

Set to go in the semi-main event, flyweight Amaris “La Reina” Quintana (4-0-2) was all smiles when she greeted her opponent Katrina De La Cruz (2-6-1) of Los Angeles who brought a babysitter along to take care of her year and seven month old daughter Rafaella.
