Adams, Hooker, Barragan excel on latest Bobby D Presents fight card

Bout #1, super featherweights Diego Madrigal (132 lbs.) of Indio, CA vs Luis Ventura (130 lbs.) of Tijuana, B. C., Mexico.
In the closing seconds of round one, the overmatched Ventura got caught with six unanswered blows to the head. After the bell sounded, Ventura, unaided, returned to his corner but on wobbly legs.
It was Deja Vu for Mr. Ventura in the second round as the battering began immediately. Twenty-one seconds later, referee Pat Russell stopped the onslaught. With the victory the 22 year-old Madrigal improves to 2-0-1, while the 27 year-old Ventura remains winless at 0-2.

Bout #2, featured two, 23 year-old featherweights, Smokin’ Joe Perez of Chula Vista, CA vs Alfredo Madrigal of Indio, CA. Both weighed in at 123 pounds. With neither boxer utilizing the jab or worrying much about defense, the punches came in bunches. Over the course of this four rounder, Perez’s dominance came by way of his superior accuracy and much better leverage. With his victory Perez ascends to 4-0-0, 3 KOs, while the gutsy but beaten Madrigal drops to 1-2-0.

In the end it was Smokin’ Joe Perez getting his arm raised by veteran referee Jose Cobian.
Bout #3, was a thriller between local favorite, light middleweight David Barragan, Co-owner of the House of Boxing in the Paradise Hills section of San Diego going up against Matt Dumais a highly touted National Amateur champion by way of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, now training with Justin Fortune at his Hollywood, CA gym.
No doubt, this action packed bout was like watching two flyweights go at it as the hands never stopped. Barragan took command early after Dumais went down from an accumulation of hard left hooks to the midsection. You would have thought Dumais was finished at that point but no, he kept battling back and on occasion landed his share of solid blows to Barragan’s head. Even though both boxers demonstrated an amazing durability, the majority of the cleaner shots were being landed by Barragan who ended up winning an unanimous decision.
With the win, Barragan moves to 6-0-1, 3 KOs, while the highly touted amateur, Dumais, loses in his debut.
In Bout #3 it was local favorite David Barragan (shorter hair) going up against the visiting Canadian Matt Dumais who now trains in North Hollywood.

Bout #4, the co-Main event, featured junior welterweights Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker of Dallas, Texas and southpaw Rynell Griffin of Las Vegas by way of New Orleans.
Plain and simple, Hooker, with his reputation as a knockout artist, gave Mr. Griffin a pounding for six straight rounds. It was like hitting the sturdiest heavy bag in the gym. With all his tools, power, boxing skills, footwork, plus valuable sparring time with recent world title challenger Ray Beltran and later with three division world champion Miguel Cotto, Hooker couldn’t stop the unyielding Mr. Griffin.
The judges were in full agreement and awarded Hooker every round with identical scores of 60-54.

At intermission, Benny Ricardo, the show’s master of ceremonies introduced the crowd to the other local boxers in attendance, veteran Pablo Cupul of Lakeside, CA by way of Yucatan, Merida, Mexico, Continental Americas Amateur Champion Danyelle Wolf, pro Amaris Quintana who just signed to fight Sindy Amador for the Female Light Flyweight World Title on October 25 at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, CA, plus one of the sports top welterweights Antonio Orozco (18-0, 14 KOs) of San Diego.

Bout #5, the Main Event, had the 24 year-old BrandonAdams from Los Angeles going up against 27 year-old Francisco “Panchito” Rios Gil from the small fishing village of Yavaros, Sonora, Mexico.
Gil survived Round #1 by enduring these loud, hard blows to his midsection. Whether he himself landed a punch is doubtful. After three knockdowns in Round #2, referee Pat Russell figured Gil had had enough.
Gil came to San Diego for a paycheck that will amaze his friends and neighbors back home where the average salary is well under a $100 a week. Surprised, heart broken about his loss? Not in the least. Not when you’ve lost 11 of your last 13 fights.
With the win, Adams moves up to 12-0-0, while Gil continues his downward slide to 18-20.
The Main Event was all about Brandon Adams (black trunks) who thrashed his opponent Francisco Rios Gil (blue trunks) from pillar to post.
