Floyd Mayweather Jr. needs our help, again

“Who’s got change?” Flashing the big bucks has become Floyd Mayweather Jr’s trademark.

Once again, the well known boxer and fan favorite, Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr., has his face pasted all over the Internet. The crux of the matter, he has a gambling problem, needs counseling on public speaking and family matters, plus he needs help unloading an expensive car. It wouldn’t be so bad if he had just one problem but these headaches keep feeding off each other.

It’s been a life of ups and downs – at this point mostly ups – for the eight-time world champion and Olympic Bronze Medalist.

Mayweather the gambler

We all know as a professional boxer, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is undefeated at 43-0. But as a professional sports bettor, he’s finally starting to admit to losing a bet every now and then. If he were successful, do you think the Las Vegas Sportsbooks would be handling his action?

On September 1, 2012, Mayweather dismissed as a just “a rumor” that he had bet $3 million on Michigan as a 14-point underdog to Alabama. That evening, Alabama put a whooping on Michigan to the tune of 41-14.

Known to brag at times, Mayweather has earned a reputation for posting photos of his winning tickets on Twitter and then this past weekend, he finally shared a photo of one of his losing wagers.

“I lost $100,000 on Detroit Lions 1st half,” Mayweather tweeted on Sunday after the favored Lions went into halftime trailing the St. Louis Rams.

He placed the bet at the Cantor Gaming sports book at M Resort, where “Money” has an account and is a major player. He also tweeted later about winning NFL wagers for $100,000 on New England and San Diego. Another tweet said: “I bet $250,000 on the Atlanta Falcons. Looks like easy money.” Indeed it was, the Falcons as 3-point favorites easily beat the Kansas City Chiefs 40-24.

The largest wager placed last weekend at Cantor Gaming, was for $400,000. Who bet that much? The Sportsbook is not at liberty to say. That wager was on the Pittsburgh Steelers, as a 1½-point underdog. It turned out to be a loser as the Steelers lost to the Denver Broncos, 31-19.

As a side note, the largest point spread covered so far this year? It was Texas Christian giving 55½ points to Grambling. Texas Christian won the game and covered that point spread by a ½ a point, 56-0.

Mayweather as a public speaker

Floyd was recently ordered to pay Manny Pacquiao $113,774 in a defamation lawsuit in which Pacquiao says Floyd falsely accused him in 2009 of using performance-enhancing drugs.

The judge in the case levied a $114,000 fine against Floyd for failing to attend a court-ordered deposition in the case, and this money will go towards paying Pacquiao’s attorneys’ fees and costs. It does NOT mean Floyd lost the case.

Mayweather was ordered to sit for the deposition between June-October last year, but never showed up, insisting he was too busy training. Pacquiao claimed Mayweather was lying about being too busy because he was photographed flitting around the country and partying in nightclubs.

Pacquiao argued he deserved to win the case on that basis alone, but the judge rejected his request and the case, which is now nearly three years old, will continue to move forward.

Mayweather the car salesman

Last week, it was reported Mayweather was trying to sell one of his cars. Most people who I talked with already had their eyes on the yearend closeout sales and the most talked about car of the season was the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid with its 166 hp, 2.4L MPI Theta II Atkinson cycle 4-cylinder engine.

First, let me run this comparison by you

Floyd received a new $385,000 Rolls-Royce Phantom last year for his 34th birthday. The boxing champion already owned one of these luxury sedans, which he bought back in 2005. While dodging the proposed mega-fight with the Filipino champion, he’s decided to sell the older one, the one with the filled ashtray. Spotted on eBay, this ride carries a rather large price tag for a 7-year old, used car, as the asking price was set at $149,985, apparently someone talked Floyd down from his original asking price of $149,999.99

This light blue Phantom has only 34,323 miles on it and features a Seashell/Navy Blue interior. The Rolls features its famous 6.75-liter V12 engine, good for 453 horse power and mated to a ZF transmission. It rides on a set of “upgraded” 22-inch chrome wheels with new tires and custom seat covers.

Then we have Mayweather the family man

The other day, the Las Vegas Review Journal reported that on September 9th, 2012, the police responded to a 911 call from a woman who was allegedly involved in a “verbal altercation” with Floyd Mayweather Jr. Floyd allegedly fled the scene with one of the woman’s personal possessions, perhaps the couple’s favorite hairbrush.

The “victim” is believed to be the mother of one of Mayweather’s children, with whom Floyd has previously pled guilty to two counts of domestic battery in 2002. Now who could that be? At this time, there is a crack staff of lawyers trying to decide if this is altercation violates the terms of Floyd’s probation.

Question: Why in the world would you go near this woman? Suggestion: As far as visitation rights, they should make arrangements for a relative or friend to pick up and drop off the youngsters.

Until the next headline, hopefully Floyd can learn to breathe in and breathe out before these maniacal urges start to surface and affect his emotional state, logic or is it sound reasoning. After all, when you’re loaded with money, as his nickname suggests, aren’t you supposed to be happy? At times it seems he’s the most unhappy person on the planet.
