Salon Mezzanine to host Young Guns Boxing Show
For over a week, Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s paternal half-brother, Justin Mayweather Jones (c) has been the talk of the town in Tijuana as the Borizteca Boxing Management Group prepared for another big show on Friday, February 26.
Are you ready fight fans? On Thursday afternoon, some very interesting gentlemen appeared at the Tijuana Boxing Commission to get their physical and then be weighed for their fight on Friday evening at the classy Salon Mezzanine in Tijuana. The promoter, the Borizteca Boxing Management Group, has 11 bouts confirmed from flyweight all the way up to heavyweight with boxers coming from near and far.
To give you a firsthand look at the bout sheet that the Tijuana Boxing Commission used at Thursday’s weigh-ins, we made a copy and added the translation of the weight classes. In Mexico you have to remember they use Kilograms instead of Pounds. The Commission has also decided to experiment and give the boxers a 30 second notice of a round coming to an end. Prior to this Friday, the combatants were given a signal (the lights in the neutral corner would come on) to alert the boxers that there was just 10 seconds remaining in the round.
In the Main Event you’ll see they have Super featherweights 26 year-old Adam Fiel (8-0) from Vacaville, Calif. taking on 23 year-old Alfredo Pitta (2-4-1) of Tijuana in a Philippine versus Mexico clash. Since both boxers have very similar styles this bout has the makings of a good one.

Next, they’re featuring 26 year-old, southpaw, super bantamweight Marcos “The Guantanamo Tusanami” Forestal, a Cuban defector who made his way out of Cuba by boxing internationally in AIBA’s World Series of Boxing. Like most defectors he misses his family, the one of a kind Cuban people, the unique music, the beaches, the great climate but not the complete control by the government. He’s had over 180 Amateur bouts and lost just 10. One of Los Angeles’ best known trainers, Joe Goossen helped Forestal make the transition from the Cuban style to the professional style and now calls him “a dangerous puncher”.

In a third bout, they have Rogelio Ruvalcaba (10-0-1, KOs) of Tijuana taking on Juan Carlos Moreno (0-12-1), also from Tijuana.
In the next bout you have Cruiserweight Rogelio Ruvalcaba (10-1-9 KOs, left) of Tijuana going up against 34 year-old Juan Carlos Moreno (0-12-1) of Tijuana.
In bout #4, you have Alejandro Vazquez (left) (1-1, 1 KO) going up against Jose Toribio (6-2, 1 KO) of The Arena in Point Loma, San Diego, Calif.
In Bout #5, you have Abel Rueda (3-o, 2 KOs) of Merida, Yucatan, Mexico taking on Dario Cervantes (1-2, 1 KO, left) of Tijuana.
In bout #6, you have lightweight Armando Tovar, (2-0, 2 KOs) of the House of Boxing, Paradise Hills, San Diego, Calif. taking on Alejandro Casteneda (r) from Rosarito, B. C., Mexico, who is making his Pro Debut. All photos: Jim Wyatt
In Bout #7 you have light heavyweight Jorge “El Bandido” Escalante (3-0-1, 2 KOs) of San Diego (right) taking on Gabriel “Black Mamba” Ojeda (1-0) of Tijuana.
In Bout #8 you have Javier Lazaret (right, 0-1) from Tijuana who trains at The Arena in Point Loma going up against 23 year-old Juan Eduardo Cuevas (5-5) of Tijuana.
In Bout #9 they have Justin Mayweather Jones (2-0, 2 KOs, top, left) going up against 50 year-old Alfred Tisdale Sr. of Fresno, Calif. who is making his Pro Debut.
Welterweight Michael Williams 3-4 from Las Vegas, Lonnie Adams from Long Beach and Jeremiah Wiggins (right, 2-0) from Las Vegas were hoping to be matched up but as of Thursday afternoon they still didn’t have a for sure opponent. According to Wiggins’ coach, his fighter is the real deal, “He’s that good, you can put a Lion or Bear in front of him. Last fight he fought an alligator and we made a purse out of him.”
In the final bout of the evening, they have 6’5″, 303.5 pound heavyweight Christopher Love of Van Nuys, Los Angeles, Calif. going up against 5’10½”, 209.44 pound Aaron Franco of Tijuana. Good luck Aaron!
