Garcia vs Hoskins, Ghvamichava vs Fonseca headline Bobby D Presents Show
Thursday evening, November 21, 2013 in the Main Ballroom of the Crowne Plaza Hanalei Hotel in Mission Valley will be the latest Bobby D Presents Boxing Show featuring super featherweights Aaron Garcia (r) and Kevin Hoskins (l).

Thursday evening, San Diego boxing fans will be returning to the Crowne Plaza Hanalei Hotel on Hotel Circle North to see the latest Bobby D Presents offering. The last fight at this venue was three years ago. On November 18, 2010 Chris Chatman won an unanimous decision victory over Lester “El Cubanito” Gonzalez in a thriller. On that night, San Diego boxing fans packed the Crowne Plaza Grand Ballroom for that memorable bout.
In the Main Event, it will be Aaron Garcia (left) facing Kevin Hoskins (r).
In tomorrow night’s Main Event they have another local favorite Aaron “Gavilan” Garcia (12-3-2, 3 KOs) of Vista, CA facing the always tough Kevin “Hostile” Hoskins (7-2, 5 KOs) of Moreno Valley, CA, in a super featherweight six rounder.
After a two year hiatus from the sport, Garcia, one of the most decorated boxers to come out of San Diego County USA Amateur Boxing ranks, appears to be back on the fast track to secure another shot at a title. In his first fight back, Garcia stopped a fellow by the name of Cesar Garcia in the first round. Not known for his power, Garcia broke Cesar Garcia’s rib. In his next fight, Garcia went the distance with the more durable Johnny Frazier winning a shut out unanimous decision.
In Hoskins, Garcia will be facing a tough brawler who is no stranger to San Diego. In his last visit to San Diego, in February at the Four Points By Sheraton Hotel, Hoskins became a spoiler and stopped the previously unbeaten Eduardo Rivera (9-0-1) in round one. Rivera has not fought since. So this is what you’d call a no brainer. You can expect fireworks in this match up.
In the co-main event, 20 year-old Victor “Sina” Fonseca of Tijuana who trains at the Intensity MMA Gym in South San Diego will face “The Wolf” Levan Ghvamichava (10-1, 8 KOs) of Miami, Florida by way of Poti, Georgia, a republic in the former U.S. S.R.

When you see Ghvamichava, you’ll understand why stablemates dubbed him “The Wolf.” It’s likely the ladies in the crowd will be turned on by his man rug, the same way they went bonkers every time Burt Reynolds, Sean Connery and Tom Selleck went shirtless. Who knows? When they see Levan, they might just start fantasizing about buying a mink coat.
Ghvamichava attained instant fame when he beat two time world amateur champion and London Olympic Gold Medalist Roniel Iglesias in his last amateur contest.
Earlier this year, Top Rank signed Ghvamichava and he made his debut on May 18th in Puerto Rico. Then to sharpen up his boxing skills, he spent six weeks sparring with the speedster Devon Alexander. After Bob Arum spent all that time and dough on Ghvamichava he ended up losing his second fight to a guy by the name of Alberto Herrera, a gent who had a dismal record of 1-9-1 in his last 11 fights. Arum dropped the Georgian like a hot potato.
The knock on Levan is his fluctuating weight which when fighting has ranged from 141 all the way up to 156 over the past two years.
On the undercard is the ultra-popular David Barragan (6-0-1, 3 KOs) who will be putting his undefeated record on the line against Arthur Brambila (9-19-1, 4 KOs) in his first scheduled six rounder. Barragan took “fight of the night” honors in his last performance when he defeated former Canadian amateur standout Matt Dumais. Brambila is no where near the caliber of a Dumais. He has just one win over the last eight years.

Also scheduled is Prince “Tiger” Smalls (1-0-1) going up against Luis “Chapo” Vargas (1-5-1) of Tijuana in a four round featherweight clash. Vargas’ only win was back on April 6, 2008 in his debut against Adan Osuna.
Since Luis Vargas was too late for the Thursday weigh-ins, he’ll be weighed on Friday just prior to his match with Prince Tiger Smalls who had no problem making weight on Thursday. In this photo we see Smalls with his support group which includes his trainer/father and 2013 inductee to the California Boxing Hall of Fame – Tiger Smalls (front row, 3rd from the right).
Then, they have super bantamweight sensation “Smokin’” Joe Perez (4-0, 3 KOs) going up against Tijuana’s Victor Capaceta (3-4-2, 1 KO). Capaceta has looked impressive in his last two outings, a TKO victory in Round #2 over Miguel Mendoza on November 6th and then back on August 3rd, he went the distance in a losing effort against the undefeated Daniel Nava.
