More accolades for WBA Champion Danny Roman
According to WBA rules, the organization, under special circumstances, can recognize any boxer as its Super Champion. The WBA considers Roman’s career achievements, exceptional boxing record (27-2-1, 10 KOs) plus dominance within the Super Bantamweight division such a circumstance.
“I’m very grateful and honored to be their Super Champion,” said Danny “The Baby Faced Assassin” Roman. “The WBA title will always hold a special place in my heart. These title fights mean everything to me and I feel very fortunate that I’ve been able to make four successful title defenses.”
Roman, who also holds the International Boxing Federation crown and is currently rated #3 in the world and #1 in the U.S. by Box Rec, is currently back in the gym training for his WBA mandatory challenge against the #23 ranked, 25-year-old, 5’6″ tall, 124.5 lb. southpaw Murodjon “MJ” Akhmadaliev (7-0, 6 KOs) originally from Namangan, Uzbekistan but now residing in Indio, Calif. where he is trained by Joel Diaz and co-managed by Vadim Kornilov and Alik Frolov and signed by Matchroom Boxing.
Earlier this year, the 5’5″ tall Roman, now 29 as of May 10, 2019, was forced to pull out of their original title fight which was scheduled to take place on September 13, 2019, due to tendinitis in his left shoulder which no doubt had been aggravated when battling the formerly undefeated T. J. Doheny (21-0, 15 KOs) in Roman’s mixed decision win on April 26, 2019, at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif. With that injury now healed (hopefully) and given subsequent medical clearance to resume training, Roman went right back in the gym to prepare to make that fifth title defense of his WBA title which he won two years ago with a knockout of Shun Kubo in Kyoto, Japan (at the time Kubo was 12-0). He then defended that title with a Unanimous Decision win over Ryo Matsumoto (at the time of their meeting Matsumoto was 21-1). Next came a Unanimous Decision win over Moises Flores (at the time 25-0) followed by a 10th round referee stoppage, TKO win over Gavin McDonnell (at the time of their meeting 20-1-2). Then, of course, came that battle against the undefeated southpaw T. J. Doheny (at the time 21-0).
On a serious note, if Danny Roman attended to his left shoulder injury immediately after that fight versus Doheny, had surgery done, and then fully recovered from the shoulder surgery, it could have taken him up to seven to possibly eight months to be back at 100%. So, here’s hoping Roman and his management staff have taken every precaution to ensure the Champ is right back to his former self, translation – peak condition, because Mr. Akhmadaliev is the real deal. Akhmadaliev recently stopped two tough customers, Isaac Zarate (by TKO, a first) and Carlos “Memin” Carlson (who fell victim to a stoppage in round three). Back in March of 2017, the highly thought of Carlson (at the time 21-1) battled the WBC Bantamweight Champ Shinsuke Yamanaka for his world title.
