Ottley loses to top prospect Bohachuk at the OC Fairgrounds

On Friday evening, December 8, 2017, Roy Englebrecht’s Boxing Show at The Hangar on the OC Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, featured a super welterweight six round clash between San Diego’s Kevin “KO” Ottley (27-years-old, 5-1-1, 4 KOs) and 22-year-old Serhii “El Flaco” Bohachuk (5-0, 5 KOs) from Los Angeles, Calif. by way of Viniza, Ukraine who has been training at the famous Summitt Training Facility in Big Bear Lake, Calif. The Summitt Training Facility, owned and operated by Abel Sanchez, just so happens to be the gym of record for Gennady “GGG” Golovkin.

From past fights, we learn a lot about Bohachuk. He is the patient type who has learned from experience, that it is best to follow the script. In those previous bouts, the Ukrainian super welterweight would first begin by working over an opponent’s midsection as he did against Joan Jose Valenzuela from Bakersfield, Calif. in his last fight. Bohachuk’s body attack broke Valenzuela down and the accumulation of blows to the stomach soon forced Valenzuela (5-9-1) to the canvas. After further peppering of Valenzuela’s midsection, it became easier and easier for referee Jay Nady to come to the conclusion that Valenzuela had that “No mas” look in his eyes, even though Valenzuela was still on his feet.

Now with both Bohachuk and Ottley having just about the same Pro and Amateur pedigree, this bout was a real dandy and after four rounds the scorecards had them dead even. Then came the ill-fated fifth round when Ottley decided it was time to try something different. Ottley stood directly in front of Bohachuk, toe to toe, and started to trade blows. It was at this point that Bohachuk landed the fatal blow to Ottley’s midsection that ended Ottley’s night. The blows to the stomach have become Bohachuk’s weapon of choice. With the win, the highly touted, undeterred, perhaps unstoppable Bohachuk moves up to 6-0 with 6 KOs.
