Pro Boxing Favorite: Amaris “Diamond Girl” Quintana

When it comes to local favorites Amaris Quintana (12-3-2, 4 KOs) Global ID 493289, born October 22, 1989, has to be way up there on our list. And, as far as versatility, this young beauty could have easily gone into almost any field of endeavor and been successful. From being a heroine in one of those Marvel Comic movies to running her own ranch, from fitness guru to veterinarian, it’s simply in her genes. She’s always had that personality that attracts people, like bees to honey. This is one of those cases where the photos speak volumes of her allure but can’t possibly relay the whole tale of how she’s had to overcome some major obstacles along the way.
(l to r) Quintana has a chance meeting with Boxing legend Miguel “Junito” Cotto, the former multi-division World Champion from Caguas, Puerto Rico. Next, she meets up with Gennady “GGG” Golovkin of Los Angeles, Calif. by way of Kazakhstan, the former IBO, WBA and WBC Middleweight Champ and finally we see her with Mia St. John, a former female lightweight champ who has worked with the former First Lady Michelle Obama to find support for school-based Mental Health programs. The meet and greets seem endless. (l to r) She’s with the now honorary Dr.Bernard Hopkins. “The Executioner” held multiple world titles as a middleweight and light heavyweight over his nearly three-decade career. She’s also met “The Great Entertainer” Jorge “El Maromero” Paez, who at one time was an actor, circus performer and two time World Featherweight Champ. Finally, but not least, she met lightweight titleholder Petr Petrov from Madrid, Spain by way of Ryazan, Russia. All of these great people would be prime fodder for a movie script.
Being a bit of a tomboy, Amaris always goes full bore into any athletic competition, equestrian event, and she’s even accomplished in the use of firearms. Having lovable pets, she has always been the sought after babysitter who actually looks forward to taking care of your little troublemaker and ends up taking them to some dandy location like a horse ranch or a restaurant, à laChuck E. Cheese.
After winning the NABF Minimum-weight Title on June 27, 2014, with an eight-round unanimous decision over the undefeated Susana Uribe, four years went by before she was able to move up and stop the undefeated Luz Elena Martinez in the second round of their scheduled 10 rounder to win the WBC Female International Light Flyweight Title. Prior to that Uribe battle, Quintana endured back-to-back brutal battles with the light flyweight world champ Sindy Amador on Amador’s home turf. She also fought the equally tough Melissa “Mighty Poderosa” McMorrow to a Mixed Decision Draw (twice). McMorrow went on to win both the IBF and WBO World Female Flyweight titles. As you can see from the above photos, Boxing is hard, hard work and it is oh-so-important that you stay healthy and focused at all times.When you’re always on the upbeat like the Diamond Girl, you see most things as fun and games.
