Wednesday, it’s Ensenada’s Champion going up against Tijuana’s Champion
In Wednesday night’s Main event, Mayen Promotions has the ever tough Edivaldo Ortega (L), the Tijuana Champion going up against Francisco Pina (R) the Champion from Ensenada, B. C. for the State Super Bantamweight Championship.
Today, Tuesday, there were a great many top boxers on hand at the Tijuana Boxing Commission office either hoping to renew their license or pass the muster for the upcoming show which will be held this Wednesday evening at the Salon Las Pulgas Night Club.
In Wednesday’s Main Event they have the always tough, undefeated Edivaldo “El Indio” Ortega. Boxing scribes have been predicting that this could be one of the final times for us locals to see this talented pugilist before he sets out for points north, Las Vegas and such. Ortega’s management team has been taking it step by step but now they have Mr. Ortega sitting at 15-0 and he’s running out of credible opponents.
On Wednesday night, he’ll be facing a more than credible fighter, Francisco Pina. Even though Pina has four losses, he took some questionable fights at the last minute just to raise dough for his wedding and honeymoon. After the vacation from the sport, Pina has rededicated himself.
In Bout #6, it will be Israel Arellano (L) of San Diego facing Kit Gamboa of Tijuana. I wouldn’t want to be Gamboa’s shoes when Arellano starts unloading his heavy artillery.
Also featured on this fight card is Israel Arellano. After knocking out his first four opponents, he has plans to keep that streak alive. Israel is a last minute replacement for his brother, Anthony Arellano (6-0), who had to drop out after reopening a cut. The Arellano brothers are special and they’ve been getting some extra-special attention at the House of Boxing from Carlos Barragan Jr. Arellano’s opponent better start looking for a soft landing.

In Bout #5, it will be Kevin Moreno (R) making his pro-debut against the still undefeated Heriberto Delgado.
Your average boxing fan can name at least four great boxers who were born and bred in Mexico. Here we see a mural that was recently painted in Tijuana to honor the city’s boxing world champions. How many can you name?
