Thursday’s weigh-ins complete for Friday’s Borizteca Boxing Show

On Thursday at the weigh-ins, with all of the hard work done, our promoter, Saul Rios of the Borizteca Boxing Management Group was going through his checklist. It seemed as if all of the pieces were falling into place and then the news came that one of the boxers had gotten this cut above his eye. Legitimate excuse? Maybe. “Can we get a replacement?” the promoter asked. The calls went out to all the local gyms that Borizteca needed a welterweight, 140 to 147 pounds, to face Mike Williams a fellow hoping to make his pro-debut. Williams had traveled all the way from Las Vegas, Nevada with his support group, plus his wife and infant child, not once but twice to make this Pro debut. The last time he showed at the weigh-ins, his opponent backed out at the last minute. Yes, this is boxing. Aside from this latest hiccup, all systems are “go”for tomorrow night’s show. The promoter has eleven strong contests with 22 boxers ready to get it on – give it all they have. After today’s weigh-ins, here is the most, up to date list of confirmed match-ups for Friday night’s show at the Mezzanine Hall in Tijuana.
Bout #1 between Michael Williams and Gabriel Fernandez – cancelled.
It hasn’t been easy for the Michael Williams family. Hopefully in the not too distant future, the sport will be kinder to them. Right now, it’s wearing them out. Two long trips to Mexico and he still hasn’t gotten an opportunity to make his Pro debut.
Bout #2 – Ivan Reyes (l) versus Vincente Portillo Diaz (r). 
Bout #3 – Ricardo Flores (l) versus Reyes Manon Sosa (r) from Oakland, Calif., the much younger brother of boxing great Merqui “El Corombo” Sosa. Reyes Manaon Sosa is making his pro debut.
Bout #4 – Juan Carlos Moreno (l) of Tijuana is in a rematch versus San Diego’s George Escalante (r). In their first fight, they battled to a draw.
Bout #5 – Dilan Valdez (l) versus Roberto Mesa (r) from Temecula, Calif. who is making his pro-debut.
Bout #6 – Adam Lopez (l), the sone of boxing great Hector Lopez, versus Hector Garcia (r).
Bout #7 has Antonio Navidad (l) of Tijuana facing Kevin Ottley (r) of the Bomber Squad Academy in El Cajon, Calif. Ottley, another USA Amateur Boxing standout, is a recent transplant from Baltimore, Maryland. 
Bout #8 – Juan Beltran (l) of Tijuana will be going up against Simon Torres (r) who trains at the House of Boxing in Paradise Hills, San Diego, Calif. 
Bout #9 – Hector Lopez Jr. (l), the son of boxing great Hector Lopez, is making his Pro-debut against Juan Delgado (r) of Tijuana. All photos: Jim Wyatt
Bout #10 – Armando Tovar (l) of San Diego’s House of Boxing will be facing Ramon Palma (r) of Tijuana.
Bout #11 – Alfredo Ledezma (l) of Tijuana will be going up against Dario Cervantes (r), is from Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico.
Bout #12, between Miguel Villalobos (l) of Tijuana and Alimkhan Jumakhonov (r) of Reseda, a Los Angeles neighborhood located in the San Fernando Valley, could possibly be “the Bout of the night.” Originally from Tajikistan, Jumakhonov kind of reminds you of another tough guy from that area, Gennady Golovkin. Ali Khan has lightning fast hands.
This fight card is part of the World Class Boxing Series, produced and distributed by PAP Sports. Friday night’s event will be a tape delayed telecast to air in Baja California, the United States via LATV Networks, and worldwide over the Internet. Tickets for this “Redemption” fight card are available at the venue. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. with the first bout scheduled to begin at 8:15 p.m. With the cost of admission only $8.30, how can you, as a true boxing fan, miss this show?
