Title of Saturday’s Muaythai show says a lot: The Proving Ground

Mercy, at Friday’s weigh-ins for Saturday’s WCK Muay Thai show at the Four Points By Sheraton Hotel, nobody looked more fierce than the headliners, local Champ, Selina Flores (r) and the Arizona Champ Maddie Geurkink (l).

On Saturday evening, September 23rd, 2017, Dennis Warner & In Sync Productions return to the Four Points By Sheraton Hotel in San Diego with four impressive IKF Amateur Muaythai Promotional Title fights and an additional eight bouts featuring the best of the up and comers and as a consequence you end up with the catchy title: The Proving Ground.

It goes without saying that each of these bouts is an IAMTF ranking bout unless it is a Title Fight, and quite often the best all-action bouts are those when you have the newer fighters trying to make a name for themselves. All bouts will be supervised by the IKF, supervisor in charge Elaine Jojola and supervisor for the IAMTF Sarinda Chaney. Take note: you can always watch WCK Full Rules Muaythai on Thursday night at 11 p.m. on Fox Sports San Diego & Fox Sports Prime Ticket but you have to believe there is nothing quite like being there. Without further ado, here is Saturday evening’s line-up.

IKF Amateur Modified Muaythai 140 lbs.

On Saturday night, Amber Sarkissian (above) from Moreno Valley (5’6” tall, 38-years-old) coached by Mike Sarkissian will be making her WCK debut against

Melissa Sifuentes from Imperial Beach, Calif. (who is also making her debut is 5’4” tall, 31-years-old, coached by Victor Beltran from The Boxing Zone LLC The Gym/Physical Fitness Center, Imperial Beach, Calif.

Edward Perez III (Eddie Perez) from Vista, Calif. (0-2, 1-1 MMA, 5’6” tall, 32-years-old) is coached by Bryon Schnell. He’ll be taking on Jonathan Venetia (below) from San Diego, Calif. (0-1, 5’6” tall, 30-years-old), coached by Jhanex Alviz at the UFC Gym in Mission Valley, San Diego, Calif.

James Ewton from San Diego, Calif. (6-2, 6 foot tall, 31-years-old), coached by Charles Martinez at The Arena Gym, Point Loma, San Diego, Calif. He’ll be 

taking on Rezekial Dulaney from Riverside, California by way of Beaumont, Calif. (4-0, 6 foot tall, 23-years-old) and coached by Joey Pagliuso.

IKF Amateur Muaythai 147 lbs.

Brandon Kurosawa from San Diego, Calif. (2-0-1, 5’9” tall, 20-years-old) coached by Jesse Magusen from The Boxing Club in UTC, La Jolla, Calif.

Kurosawa will be taking on Ryan Rahimpour (below) from San Diego, Calif. (2-1, 6’1″ tall, 28-years-old) who is coached by Steven Frye at Victory MMA in Point Loma, San Diego, Calif.

Amateur Bout 5

IKF Amateur Modified Muaythai 150+1 lbs.

Sweet Baby James Gregory of El Cajon, Calif. (4-13-1, 5’7″ tall, 37-years-old) will take on Tony Marrufo of San Diego, (2-0, 5’10” tall and 27 years of age).

Tony Marrufo will have quite an advantage over Gregory if you consider their difference in age plus the reach and height advantage. Mr. Gregory will hold the advantage when it comes to experience and which fighter has the biggest heart.

Stephanie Tanguay from San Diego, Calif. (3-0, 5’4” tall, 29-years-old) is coached by Jesse Magusen from The Boxing Club, UTC in La Jolla, Calif.

Stephanie Tanguay from The Boxing Club of La Jolla will be taking on the

very positive Ruth McDonald from Riverside, Calif. (2-1, 5’6″ tall, 26-years-old), who is trained by Joey Pagliuso from the Joey Pagliuso Muay Thai team.

Bruno Borges from Chula Vista, California, (10-2, 5’6″ tall, 27-years-old), who is coached by Juan Luis Miranda from The Alliance Training Center, East Lake, Chula Vista, Calif. will be defending his title against

Ismail Zizi from San Diego, Calif. (2-2, 5’7” tall, 28-years-old), who is coached by Jhanex Alviz from the UFC Gym in Mission Valley, San Diego, Calif.

Roman Lysenko (San Diego, Calif.) 6-1, 6’ tall, 22-years-old), who is coached by Jesse Magusen and Caine Gayle at the Boxing Club, UTC, La Jolla, Calif. will be taking on Cameron Thomson from Inglewood, Calif. (1-1 AMMA: 2-3, 5’10” tall, 28-years-old) who is trained by Chad George at the California Mixed Martial Arts gym in Gardena, Calif.

The California Champion, Selina Flores, appeared to be full of confidence.

Flores will be taking on Madelynn Mae “Maddie” Geurkink from Phoenix, Arizona (record 6-5, 5’5” tall, 19-years-old), who is coached by both Travis Clay and Thiago Azeredo.

Jair Rocha from San Diego, Calif. (record 5-2, 5’4” tall, 25-years-old), is coached by both Carl Gebhardt and Shaun Shepard at Steel MMA in Tierrasanta, San Diego, Calif. Rocha will be taking on

Jordan Huber of San Diego, Calif. (9-2, 5’6” tall, 18-years-old) who is coached by Jhanex Alviz from the UFC Gym in Mission Valley, San Diego, Calif.

Amateur Bout #11, the final bout of the show is an IKF Amateur Modified Muaythai 145 lbs. bout

featuring Carleigh Karen from San Diego, Calif. (2-0, 5’9” tall, 18-years-old), coached by Jesse Magusen from The Boxing Club in UTC LaJolla, Calif. Karen will be taking on

Victoria Beltran from Imperial Beach, Calif. (1-1, 5’6” tall, 24-years-old), who is coached by her father Victor Beltran from The Boxing Zone, LLC., Imperial Beach, Calif.

Victoria Beltran has quite a background in the sport. In 2006, as a junior fighter at age 13, she was an IKF World Classic Champion at the Cedar Rapids, Iowa event and then at age 14, she was a 2007 IKF World Classic Kickboxing Champion at an event held in Orlando, Florida.

The final WCK Full Rules Muaythai show of 2017 in San Diego, Muaythai Mayhem! will take place on November 11th at the same venue, the Four Points By Sheraton Hotel. That event will feature the return of three top professionals Francisco Garcia, Alex Higley plus Victory MMA standout Alyssa Madison who will be facing Paola Ramirez.

Tickets for that November 11th show, co-sponsored by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, will be available in the first week of October at your local gym or online at WCK Muaythai.
