Tomorrow’s Champions boxing show at Four Points by Sheraton
The memory of William "Mitch" Williams (left), the only boxer who ever went the distance with Lionel Davis (right) is still a vivid memory in Davis's mind.
Once again, Bobby D. Presents in association with Jorge Marron Productions has another great boxing show for us. This one’s called “Tomorrow’s Champions” and it’s all set to begin Thursday 7:30 p.m. at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in San Diego.
In the main event, hard hitting heavyweight Lionel T. Davis (7-0, 6 KOs) of Hawthorne, CA comes to our way for a four rounder. The 27 year-old Davis weighs 256 pounds and stands 6’7” tall. To put that in perspective, that makes him the same size as Wladimir Klitschko and two inches taller than Vincent Jackson, the tallest wide receiver on the San Diego Chargers. Davis has been on a tear since turning pro, knocking out every one of his opponents in the first round except for one, William “Mitch” Williams who somehow managed to survive in a losing effort.
The much shorter Cornell Davis (3-13-2) is on the docket to face Davis. Woe be Cornell if he can’t get in close. Davis’s height, reach and weight advantage make him a prohibitive favorite. Cornell “the Troublesome Underdog” Davis hasn’t won a fight in over four and a half years.
In the semi-main event, Amaris “La Reina” Quintana (4-0-2) is going up against Los Angeles, CA’s Katrina De La Cruz (2-6-1) in a four round flyweight contest. Quintana, who is all action, will have her hands full with De La Cruz who despite her record has faced some really stiff competition and won her last two outings.
In a four round light welterweight match, Adrian Vargas (1-0) who is trained by his brother Joe Vargas at the Undisputed Fitness and Training Center, Downtown, goes after his second win when he faces Tijuana’s Alejandro Garcia (0-2-1). Since Vargas is so popular and helps out at the local gym, he should benefit big time from the large pro-Vargas crowd showing up at his fights.
Another local favorite, Emmanuel Robles (2-0) trains at Old School Boxing with Ernie Johnson. He returns to face Franky Martinez (0-3) of Las Vegas, Nevada. Yes, Martinez hasn’t won yet, but consider the quality of the opponents he’s faced. All three of his losses came to boxers who are undefeated.
Erin Beach (1-0), of both the Black House Team Nogueira Gym on Miramar Road in San Diego and the Alliance Training Center in Chula Vista, a well respect Mixed Martial Artist and MMA instructor, is scheduled to fight Brandon Adams of Los Angeles who is making his pro debut. Also, Frederico Martinez (0-2-0) is going up against Salvador Cifuentes (0-1-0) of the Alliance Training Center in Chula Vista.
