Some classic match-ups on the latest Jibaro Boxing Show
On Thursday, the Tijuana Boxing Commission along with the Jibaro Boxing Promotions Group held the weigh-ins for Friday’s big show at the Big Punch Arena in Tijuana. While the Bout Sheet read 14 bouts, quite a few boxers failed to show up at the Tijuana Commissioner’s Office at the appointed time. It’s likely, the officials will bend the rules and allow the six missing boxers to weigh in just prior to tomorrow’s event. Of course, their disregard for the weigh-in time will cost them dearly as their opponents will now have had ample time to put on additional weight since they won’t be required to return to the scale. The Big Punch Arena at Boulevard Gustavo Diaz Ordaz 3265, Tijuana, B. C., Mexico, 22116, the newest facility to host boxing shows in Tijuana, is quite a unique place as it doubles as this huge, cavernous gym with all the bells and whistles and then within a few hours, it can be transformed into this ideal venue for hosting a world-class boxing event.
In the co-main event at the new Big Punch Arena, you have bantamweights, (photo, bottom, right) 21-year-old Victor “Chucky” Sandoval (28-3, 19 KOs) Global ID 660843, being challenged by (bottom, left) Francisco “Rayito” Pedroza (11-7-2, 6 KOs) Global ID 634695. According to the sport’s official record-keeper Box Rec, Sandoval last fought on February 8, 2018, a 10th round TKO victory over Jairo Gutierrez while Pedroza last fought on August 19, 2017, a unanimous decision victory over Erick Torres Escobedo.
In this photo collage, (top) we have the 24-year-old super featherweight, 5’7″ tall, Arnol “Hitman” Guzman (6-1-1, 4 KOs) Global ID 783066 from Tijuana who some say is more famous than Justin Bieber. Guzman is scheduled to fight the missing Javier “Tumbo” Rios (0-8, a victim of 7 KOs) Global ID 673018 from Tijuana who has been inactive since June 22, 2017. (bottom photo) is of the 33-year-old welterweight Adan “Ojitos” Gamboa, (2-20, 1 KO) Global ID 369155, a well known Tijuana boxing trainer, who all of a sudden decided it was time to get back in the ring after a two year, eight months and 17 days sabbatical. Like so many others, Gamboa feels he has gotten better with age.
The 21-year-old, 5’6″ tall flyweight Arnulfo “Pacman” Salvador from Tijuana (right) is now (6-1, 4 KOs), Global ID 773047. The more than decent basketball player is anxious to make amends for his loss to tough guy Ali Cortez (8-0, 3 KOs) in his last outing back on March 24th of this year. Salvador’s opponent, 19-year-old Jose Aguirre Lopez (2-1, 2 KOs) Global ID 792713, is from Huatabampo, Sonora, Mexico. He is more like a minimum weight.
Next, they have 19-year-old, super lightweight Esteban “Towy” Sanchez (7-0, 3 KOs) Global ID 811488 (r) born in Rosarito, now living and training in Tijuana. Sanchez will be facing Alejandro Leon Martinez (l) 1-14, 1 KO, a victim of 11 KOs, Global ID 776350 from Mexicali, B. C., Mexico, in a six-round super lightweight contest.
In Bout #5, they have two super middleweight bangers, 20-year-old Elvis Bravo Salazar Global ID 760072 (4-0, 3 KOs) from Tuxpan, Nayarit, Mexico going up against 38-year-old Israel “Lito” Ornelas (10-8-3, 5 KOs) Global ID 220650 from Tijuana by way of San Diego, Calif. Ornelas has now lost five in a row.
On the fight card for Bout #6 they have welterweight Juaquin Gallardo from Tijuana (Global ID 251178) going up against Joel “Dinamita” Juarez Global ID 010156, 32-31-2, 28 KOs. However, this could end up being Joaquin Gallardo, a 41-year-old welterweight, 5’10” tall (24-8-1, 9 KOs) Global ID 25178 facing Joel “Dinamita” Juarez.
Bout #7 might have been scrapped.
In Bout #12, a four rounder, they have super flyweight, 32-year-old, 5’4″ tall Jee Hoon “Mega Boy” Kim from the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles by way of San Diego (4-0, 4 KOs), Global ID 825109, (left) going up against either 19-year-old Jesus Alvino (Global ID 747951 from Tijuana or 20-year-old Ulises Tovar (0-5) from Empalme, Sonora, Mexico.

In the final bout, they currently have the 22-year-old bantamweight, 5’7″ tall Francisco “Kiko Udave” Amaro from Guanajuato, Mexico, (left) 1-10, taking on Jesus “Billi” Briseno (right)(10-0, 5 KOs) from Tijuana, birthplace Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico, Global ID 645905, DOB 9-1-93.
Often, being a successful boxer is all about having a great support group as does Billi Briseno with his lovely wife and Marvel Super Hero son.

In Bout #13, they’re featuring the return of the undefeated bantamweight standout 17-year-old Joseph “El Tigre” Landeros Global ID 733986, record 13-0, 13 KOs from Riverside, Calif. who will be taking on 25-year-old, 5’2″ tall, southpaw Luis Manuel “Grillo” Macias from Jesus Maria, Aguascalientes, Mexico, record 10-7-2, 4 KOs, Global ID 668638. Macias has now lost four of his last five bouts.
