Presser from HBO Sports:

HBO Real Sports: The Fight Club

Soledad O’Brien travels to San Diego and meets the men of the POW MMA Fight Club, who have found their own solution to one of the military’s biggest problems.

How many of us have ever gotten an Email directly from the boss at HBO Sports? I don’t see any hands going up. Here’s the one Todd Vance received the other day.

Dear Todd,
Everyone at HBO is excited about your segment airing tonight on HBO Real Sports. Below is an editorial video we produced.

This evening, HBO’s celebrated Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel presents another enlightening, behind the scenes look at the world of sports and sports heroes. The subjects of their latest broadcast live right here in San Diego. They’re your friends and neighbors.

This being the start of their 19th season, Real Sports’ 195th edition, I’m certain they want to start off with an engaging tale. Introducing their fans to someone who’s been an eyewitness to the horrors of war, the tales of bravery and pure human sacrifice, is an excellent idea. More than likely that’s the reason they’re featuring a look into the life of Todd Vance and his inspirational Fight Club group, called POW, which trains local war veterans in the sport of MMA at the Undisputed Fitness and Training Center in the North Park section of San Diego.

Gumbel and his investigative team can be likened to that other crack team of investigators over at CBS working on the iconic “60 Minutes” program. If the going-ons are in some way controversial, a problem floundering in obscurity, unbeknownst to the majority of sports fans, then this is the problem solving they relish.
